Have you heard of "Undies Sunday" at Hyde Park United Methodist? It's a new ministry where members of your group can purchase a multi-pack of men's underwear or cotton socks of various sizes to donate to the Open Arms Ministry Clothing Closet. Clean socks and underwear are a great blessing to those who live on the street.
Our Wesley group (informally named after the street name of the house in which we usually meet - Julia Circle) recently ventured out to purchase several packages of Jockey underwear from Sam's Club. By the way, if you want to get a curious look from a store clerk, try being a man with three women walking up to a cash register to purchase 20 pairs of men's skivvies.
Anyway, here's a picture of us holding the bounty.
That's Dana Banks (reflected in the background mirror) taking the picture, with (left to right) John Parrish, Dotti DiFiore, and Cheryl Parrish. Contributors not-pictured include Maureen Weathers and Doug & Karen Frost. We didn't want them to go unmentionable.
If your group wants to participate in Undies Sunday, contact Pam Carpenter at pamelacarpenter@earthlink.com.
Who knows? If this ministry goes well, perhaps we could expand it by adding "Tighty Whitey Fridays" or "Wedgie Wednesdays"? Just sayin'. ;-)
