Before I start to pitch this great new group that has been formed at MetMin, I want to share a little about my personal experience with this organization. Like many in our congregation, I was first introduced to MetMin by participating in Hyde Park's day at the Holiday Tent, one November, a number of years ago. Not only was if fun, I was simply amazed by the organization. The whole concept of the Holiday Tent is really awesome. From the general area of the tent to how they collect and sort all the donations. If you haven't been able to volunteer at the tent, I highly encourage you to do so.
I began signing up for more volunteer opportunities following that November with MetMin, and each time I learned more about our community and continually amazed how everything worked behind the scenes. Last Fall, I was asked if I could help with some of the Murals inside of the tent. I gladly volunteered to help out and I am so glad I did. I was able to experience, hands on, every part of what the Holiday Tent Serves. As I sat and painted th murals on the walls, I watched sponsors take tours, hundreds of volunteers assembling all the different aspects of the tent, thousands of people bringing donations, the community being served, musicians rehearsing on the stage, and MetMin employees working overtime and spending countless hours making sure that every last need was met. Metropolitan Ministries is truly "God's love in Action." I am so proud that I continue to be a part of the ongoing mission of Metropolitan Ministries and their vision of hope for all of those in need.
With that being said, I gladly jumped at the opportunity to be a part of the new Young Professionals group!
Are you a Young Professional who wants to learn how to help those less fortunate in your community? Volunteers for Metropolitan Ministries have provided the leadership to start a group for young professionals who want to create the next generation of community and philanthropic leaders to care for the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless in our community. See what’s going on and get information on our upcoming events, including our kickoff events October 14th and 15th on our Facebook page!
We are having a kick-off event on Saturday, October 15th, where there will be an opportunity to learn about Metropolitan Ministries, tour the facilities and volunteer in a variety of areas, including the famous Holiday Tent.
On Friday night, October 14th, there will be an informational session at the Bricks in Ybor, where you can meet some new friends and learn a little more about the Young Professional Group.
To register, please visit our Facebook page, and please pass along this information to any of your friends you think would be interested in making a positive impact on our community.
